This hummingbird is found throughout the Rockies and western US and Canada.

 Hummingbirds Are Active Now !!

Summer and early fall are a great time of year to attract hummingbirds to your yard.

If you live in the eastern US or Canada you will see Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in your yard. But if you live in the west, you might attract half a dozen different species or more!

There are two types of Hummingbird feeders. One is a jar with a tub at the end. The other is a bowl with small openings, often with perches around the edges.

The bowl type is easier to keep clean. You should clean your hummingbird feeders once a week using a weak solution of bleach in water.

Change the nectar in the feeders every three days. To make the nectar, add one part sugar to four parts boiling water and mix. Cool. Do no add red coloring.

Eighteen hummingbird species have been seen in the US and Canada. Arizona is a mecca for many of the rarer hummingbirds. The mountains in southeastern Arizona are at the very northern edge of their range.

There are about 330 species of hummingbirds in the world -- and all live in North, Central or South America. There are no hummingbirds in Europe, Africa, Asia or Australia. Birds called Sunbirds fill the hummingbird's niche in those areas.
